We are delighted to invite you to this week’s Sparta Live! webinar, featuring Dr Paul Bardunias (Florida Atlantic University) on “Manifesting the hoplite: what reenactment can teach us about ancient Spartan warfare”.

The webinar will take place on Thursday 7 May, 17:00 BST (19:00 Athens time) on MS Teams.

The event is free to attend but you must register in advance via this link: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/8a4f64b9-9561-4812-a486-bf409a9b8a34@67bda7ee-fd80-41ef-ac91-358418290a1e

Paul Michael Bardunias, Ph.D., is an entomologist who studies self-organized swarm behaviour in insects and teaches at Florida Atlantic University. A Spartan by blood, he has turned his skills to a different sort of Myrmidon. He uses rules learned from the group behaviour of insects to understand the mechanics of massed combat in human warfare. He is a regular contributor to Ancient Warfare magazine, the author of “Hoplites at War”, with Fred Ray, “The Face of Battle at Plataiai” with Roel Konijnendijk, in The Battle of Plataiai 479 BC, Konecny-Sekunda eds, and “The Clash of Shield-walls at Plataea”, in The Battle of Plataea: Politics, Memory, Bershadsky ed. He has organized and helped plan reenactment events at Sparti and Plataiai, Greece. He can be reached for questions or comments at pbardunias@fau.edu.

Please forward this invitation to anyone else who you think might be interested in attending. All welcome!

The talk will also be livestreamed via http://vachosradio.gr/
